PTSO Newsletter
The SDHS PTSO is all of us who have a vested interest in the success of our students:
P = parents, guardians, step-parents, grandparents, etc.
T = teachers, administrators, staff
S = students
We all work together to “secure for all . . . youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education,” a National PTA objective.
THREE WAYS YOU CAN HELP
1. VOLUNTEER– the PTSO is the primary source of volunteers for the academic and administrative aspects of the school. Examples of the many volunteer opportunities
- for people who can spend time during the day on a regular basis:
- answer phones in the office
- make copies
- file - for people who can come to school periodically:
- proctor examinations
- monitor a class while a teacher spends individual time with students
- teacher appreciation week activities - for people who can help on evenings or weekends:
- be part of the SDHS Advocacy Team (see below)
- provide food for special occasions
- help with the PTSO sponsored Winter Dance
- participate on a PTSO committee
A new volunteer opportunity is the SDHS Advocacy Team, which will consist of parents, teachers and students who agree to be called upon if there is a need to:
· contact officials by phone, e-mail, or letter
· send a sizable delegation to a community event, like a School Board meeting or a Town Hall Meeting. Through such a display of solidarity, we can more effectively gain attention on issues important to our school. No one would be required to speak: sometimes delegations will have a single spokesperson; sometimes anyone wishing to speak may do so. This team would be activated via a call or e-mail, most likely one to three times during a school year.
If you wish to volunteer in any capacity, please contact one of the volunteer coordinators listed below.
2. BECOME A MEMBER – Your membership helps improve SDHS PTSO’s ability to support and promote programs and activities that improve the education of our students. At only $3.00 per person, it is a sound investment in the quality of support the PTSO can provide. We encourage each parent, teacher, and student to become a member.
3. HELP GET “FREE” MONEY – A number of programs are available that will initiate donations to SDHS via its PTSO:
- Bi-Lo Boosters – designate SDHS PTSO as one of the non-profit organizations to receive a donation from Bi-Lo each time you use your B-Lo Bonus Card. To participate, contact one of the fundraising VPs listed below and give them the 12 digit Bi-Lo card number, or input it yourself on www.bi-lo.com; follow the links to the Bi-Lo booster program, then follow the instructions. SDHS organization code number is 1029. You can designate up to 3 organizations to benefit each time you use your card
- Northgate Mall Cash for Schools contest – August 10th through October 25th – sponsored by Northgate Mall, in conjunction with Pruett’s Neighborhood Markets and Trotter Suzuki, this year’s prizes are $5,000 for 1st place, $3,000 for 2nd, and $2,000 for 3rd. Winners are based on the total points credited toward the school divided by the number of students enrolled. As one of the largest schools in the district, we would need a very high total points in order to be competitive.
Submit your receipts for any Pruett’s or Northgate Mall area purchases (including neighboring businesses like Firestone, T J Maxx, Outback, Northgate 8, etc.) to the Mall Customer Service desk for validation, or write “Soddy Daisy High School” on the receipt and put in the Trotter Suzuki in the Mall Center Court Area.
- 10 points will be earned for each dollar spent at these establishments
- 10 additions points for every dollar paid with a Visa card
- Double points for Pruett’s purchases made Monday through Thursday
- 500 points at Mall Customer Service desk for a signed Cash for Schools flier
- 1000 points for becoming a member of their on-line shoppers program; form are at the Mall Customer Service desk
- 2500 points for checking out Trotter Suzuki’s new 2002 vehicles
- 5000 point for completing a worthwhile community project
